Amtech Reports Significant Interest in New Ion Implant & PECVD Products At Recent SNEC Solar Industry Exhibition & Conference

TEMPE, Ariz., May 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Amtech Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASYS), a global supplier of production and automation systems and related supplies for the manufacture of solar cells, semiconductors, and sapphire and silicon wafers, today announced that it received significant interest in its new ion implant and PECVD products at the SNEC 6th (2012) International Solar Industry and Photovoltaic Exhibition and Conference, which took place May 16-18, 2012, in Shanghai, China.

After just a little over a year of development time, Amtech's China subsidiary, Kingstone Semiconductor, introduced its ion implant system at the SNEC Exhibition.  This ion implant system has been developed from the ground up to specifically serve the solar industry's continued need to attain higher levels of solar cell efficiency at a lower total cost of ownership.

Additionally, Tempress Systems, also a subsidiary of Amtech, introduced its new tube-type batch PECVD product at the SNEC Exhibition.  Tempress has drawn on its extensive expertise with diffusion batch processing and PECVD development to bring to market this new product, which positions Tempress to double the size of the solar market it serves.

Mr. Fokko Pentinga, Chief Executive Officer of Amtech, commented, "We are excited to report a very high level of interest in our new products.  Having the ion implant system physically at our booth gave our current and prospective customers the opportunity to see the quality of design and manufacturing of this solar implant system and familiarize themselves with its capabilities.  We are processing sample wafers for a select number of customers with our machine and are having discussions on potential future orders for the beta machine."

"Our investment in research and development is delivering highly relevant technologies to the marketplace.  Additionally, the introduction of these new technologies serves our ongoing strategic objective to expand our product portfolio and the size of market we serve, and to more fully participate in the next generation, high-efficiency solar market."
